The Story Behind the Canvas
Creating this piece was a deeply spiritual journey for artist Valerie Ellis, born through literal blood, sweat, and tears. While sewing the original 3x5' tapestry, Valerie frequently pricked her fingers with pins—a visceral reminder of the blood Jesus shed for us. Through tears of intense prayer, she asked the Lord to guide her hands so the artwork would convey the true gravity and anointing of Calvary. When she felt she had made mistakes on the canvas, she watched in awe as God used those very imperfections to make the scene look even more realistic and powerful.

When Valerie first presented the finished tapestry to her pastor, it was unexpectedly rejected. But God works in mysterious ways. Before she left the office, the pastor's mother walked in.
